Australian music group “Band of Brothers” comes to Dhaka

The Australian High Commission is hosting a visit by a popular Australian music group, Band of Brothers, who will perform at a gala concert at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday 21 October from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.

Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury MP, Honourable State Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs will be the Chief Guest at the concert while renowned composer and singer Habib Wahid will be present as the Special Guest. The Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh HE Dr. Justin Lee will introduce the Band to the audience.

Featuring Australia’s finest young musicians, the Band of Brothers brings together the guitar talents of Leonard Grigoryan with the extraordinary oud (an Arabic instrument similar to the guitar) playing of Joseph Tawadros and the percussive skills of his younger brother James Tawadros to bring an adventurous musical partnership that crosses musical boundaries. Each a distinguished artist in his own right, this collaboration showcases the very best of Australian talent.

The Band of Brothers will perform in Dhaka under Australian Government’s Fine Music Touring Program contract with Musica Viva, Australia’s oldest independent professional performing arts organisation. Under the Fine Music Touring Program the Brothers have so far performed in Laos, Thailand and Vietnam in early 2011. The South Asian leg of their tour started with the band performing in various cities of India before arriving in Bangladesh.

Australian High Commission is giving out complimentary passes for the concert, which are currently available at Nando’s (Gulshan, Dhanmondi), Barista (Gulshan, Karwan Bazar, Uttara), Coffee World (Banani, Dhanmondi) outlets and Bitter Sweet Café (House 10, Road 53, Gulshan 2).
