HE Susan Ryle

Ms Ryle is Australia’s High Commissioner to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, taking up the role in February 2025.

Ms Ryle has extensive experience in foreign policy, diplomacy, development and humanitarian response, with a focus on the Indo-Pacific region.

Prior to assuming her current role, Ms Ryle oversaw Indian Ocean and South Asia Regional engagement, including leading maritime security programs in the Northeast Indian Ocean.

Ms Ryle was responsible for Japan and Republic of Korea economic and policy from 2021‑2023. Ms Ryle served as Counsellor on short term missions at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo and at the Australian Embassy in Beijing.

 Ms Ryle served as Australia’s Deputy High Commissioner to Vanuatu from 2016-2020. She worked as Director of Humanitarian Response Operations and oversaw non-government development programs in 2014-2015. She also served in Papua New Guinea from 2008-2010.

Prior to joining the foreign service, Ms Ryle worked in government at the local and national levels, as well as the private sector in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Ms Ryle holds a Master of Studies in Strategic Affairs, a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Asian Studies from the Australian National University.
