Departure Travel Tax for Foreign Nationals

The tax is either collected at the time of issue of the ticket or in cash at the airport by the airlines (for air travel) at check in. This is in addition to other travel taxes being paid.

The tax amounts have been classified into nine regions of travel:

BDT 2,500 for all travel around North and South America, Europe, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Far East

BDT 800 for all travel in any South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries

BDT 1,800 for any Middle East countries or other than stated as above

BDT 500 for any travel by road

However, the following persons are exempted from the above mentioned tax

1. Infants - under two years of age

2. Cancer patients

3. Blind persons

4. Passengers traveling by stretcher

5. Flight crew members

6. Diplomats and their family members working in Bangladesh

7. United Nations officials and their family members working in Bangladesh

8. Traveling for pilgrimage and Umrah

9. Transit passengers, traveling without visa and leaving within 72 hours

10. Bangladeshi nationals working at any carrier and when traveling with any free complimentary or industrial discounted ticket
