Australia Congratulates Bangladesh on its Independence Day
The Australian High Commission conveys its warmest congratulations to the people and Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, on the occasion of their Independence Day on 26 March 2009.
Australia was the fourth country, and the first among developed nations, to recognise Bangladesh’s independence in 1971, and since then our bilateral relations have continued to strengthen and diversify.
Australia and Bangladesh have a shared commitment to democratic principles and our relationship is underpinned by growing trade, education, sporting and people-to-people links. Australia also remains a committed development partner of Bangladesh.
The Governor General of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, has written to the Honourable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Mr Zillur Rahman, formally conveying the Australian Government’s congratulations on Bangladesh’s Independence Day.
