Australia donates spectacles to Lions Club for poor eye-patients

The Australian High Commissioner HE Douglas Foskett hands over the spectacles to Md Omar Shafayat Kausar, District Governor of the Lions Club in Dhaka

“The precious gift of sight is so easily taken for granted by those of us who have it. But there are so many poor people whose blindness can be prevented or otherwise saved using a little help from others. I hope these spectacles will give poor eye patients in Bangladesh the ability to have better sight.” Australian High Commissioner, HE Douglas Foskett told while handing over around 1,000 pairs of spectacles to Md Omar Shafayat Kausar, District Governor of the International Association of Lions Club in Dhaka. The Lions Club will distribute the items free of charge among poor eye-patients in Bangladesh including the poor patients who have had cataract surgery at the Lions Eye Hospital.

The spectacles have been donated under a project jointly organised by Foresight Australia – an Australian International non-profit organisation committed to the prevention and cure of world blindness – and the Lions Club of New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory.
