New Australian Youth Ambassadors welcomed to Bangladesh

HIgh Commissioner Dr Justin Lee with new Australian Youth Ambassadors

The Australian High Commissioner Justin Lee welcomed eight new Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD) volunteers to Bangladesh at a function on Thursday 5 May.

The young volunteers will work at a range of host organisations for the next 12 months to help with the development of Bangladesh. Based in Dhaka and Savar, the volunteers will assist in a range of sectors including climate change and health.

The High Commissioner thanked the volunteers for their commitment to help with development issues. He noted Bangladesh and its development agencies were world leaders in development theory and practice, and the volunteers would also have an opportunity to increase their skills and build long lasting people-to-people relations between Australia and Bangladesh.

There are around 40 Australian volunteers in Bangladesh at any one time. The AYAD program is funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID).
